Giada Silo finished ninth in the U23 women’s road race at the UEC Road European Championships in Slovenia.
The UAE Development Team rider played an important role throughout the race, staying at the front of the action and, in the finale, working to bring her Italian teammate Eleonora Ciabocco back into contention. The two were part of the chasing group behind the four-rider breakaway, with Silo working hard to try to close the gap.
After 88.4 kilometres on the circuit in Šenčur, four riders contested the victory, with Switzerland’s Mara Winter taking the win and the European U23 title. The silver medal went to Dutch rider Nienke Vinke, while Slovakia’s Viktória Chladoňová, the newly crowned U23 world champion, took the bronze medal.
The first chasing group arrived 24 seconds behind the leaders, with Giada Silo crossing the finish line in ninth place.
