The UCI Track World Championships in Shanghai, China, got underway with a medal for UAE Team L’IMAD. Ireland’s Lara Gillespie claimed silver in the Scratch, coming close to the world title before being narrowly beaten by the Netherlands’ Lorena Wiebes in a photo finish.
“The Scratch is not my favourite race. It was a very demanding race and I gave it everything I had, so I’m happy with this world silver medal,” Gillespie said.
